In the petrochemical production process, there are high-risk factors such as high temperature, high pressure, flammability, explosiveness, and toxicity. Therefore, safety management in the inspection and maintenance work of enterprises is of significant practical importance.

In this case study, we enter a petrochemical factory, focusing on the pain points in the manual inspection process. Explore how enterprises leverage AR to build a "safety fortress" for production and operations.

Project Background

Continuously improving and optimizing safety supervision management has always been a key focus of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Guangzhou Branch (referred to as "Guangzhou Petrochemical").

In response to the various pain points faced by manual inspections, such as errors, omissions, and inaccurate data transmission, Guangzhou Petrochemical and PCITC, in collaboration with ALVA Systems, have jointly developed an AR intelligent inspection application platform. Leveraging advanced spatial computing and AI technology, the complex inspection process is digitized and visualized. This effectively eliminates safety issues in inspections caused by human uncertainties and provides a new approach to the digitization upgrade of manual inspection processes in the petrochemical industry.

Solution

▶ Full-process voice interaction, facilitating the inspection process effortlessly.
For multi-location inspections, frontline personnel find it cumbersome to advance the inspection process by clicking buttons, and it is prone to improper operations.

The ALVA AR intelligent inspection application supports full-process voice command interaction, allowing inspection personnel to complete the entire inspection process effortlessly without any manual clicking input. This enables inspection personnel to carry out their work with precision and efficiency.

▶OCR recognition inputs data accurately, ensuring the precise completion of multi-location inspections.

"A difference of a hair's breadth leads to a difference of a thousand miles." Relying solely on manual data recording in traditional inspections poses a threat to the safety and operational efficiency of enterprises, especially if errors occur during input.

During multi-location inspections, with the dual safeguards of "OCR recognition input + manual verification," inspection personnel can rapidly record relevant point parameters while ensuring the accuracy of uploaded data. This approach establishes a solid foundation for subsequent inspection tracing and optimization.

▶ Remote expert collaboration, efficiently addressing abnormal issues.
Currently, remote expert collaboration has become a "standard configuration" for solving complex on-site problems. While it can save certain travel costs, the communication costs between on-site personnel and remote experts have also increased.

Leveraging the 【AR Spatial Annotation】 feature of ALVA Rainbow, experts can mark the problem points. Even if the camera is shifted, the mark remains anchored to the original position, effectively enhancing communication efficiency between both parties.

More importantly, experts can directly synchronize clear and intuitive virtual operation guidance to the site, making the resolution of abnormal issues more efficient.

Project Results

By deploying the ALVA AR intelligent inspection application, Guangzhou Petrochemical has achieved significant results in the safety, precision, and stability of manual inspection work. This has also brought innovative improvements to the inspection process.

Advancing the workflow through full-process voice interaction, precise OCR recognition for data entry, and efficient remote collaboration means, the ALVA AR intelligent inspection application has comprehensively enhanced the inspection process for Guangzhou Petrochemical. This improvement has increased operational efficiency, reduced safety risks, and provided employees with a more advanced working experience. It has laid a solid foundation for the safety and equipment management of the enterprise.
