As a product of the new round of technological revolution and the digital economy era in the power system, the concept of the "Digital Power Grid" was proposed by the Southern Power Grid of China (referred to as "Southern Grid") in 2020.
The Digital Power Grid leverages new-generation digital technologies to digitize traditional power grids, endowing the power grid with new features and applications.

In this issue, we step into the state-owned key backbone enterprise, China Southern Power Grid. Let's take a look at the AR application co-created by ALVA Systems, empowering the digital upgrade of the power industry.

Project Background

The introduction of the concept of the digital power grid is driving the deep integration of new-generation digital technologies, including AR, within the Southern Power Grid. This exploration aims to discover new scenarios for power applications.

This case focuses on the empowerment of AR technology in personnel training and inspection scenarios at the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau.

Digitization of Personnel Training: Transitioning from traditional flat electronic courseware, such as videos and PPT documents, to the integration of virtual and real 3D courseware. This involves breaking the status quo of new trainees merely discussing theories on paper by providing simulated learning, training, and evaluation based on real scenarios.

Digitization of Personnel Inspection: The distribution of underground power cables in the power system is both numerous and complex, making it challenging for personnel to detect faults during inspections. ALVA's AR technology enables inspection personnel to gain real-time insights into the situation of underground concealed projects, accurately locate fault positions, and reduce the occurrence of power supply issues.

Solution

▶ Fusion of virtual and real technologies, enhancing the efficiency of operation and maintenance training.
Addressing the pain points of low efficiency and difficulty in assessment in employee training, ALVA innovates with AR training applications. It integrates virtual training content with real-world scenarios, establishing a communication environment that supports multiple users, multiple terminals, and real-time collaboration. This platform enables remote personnel to share the same perspective as on-site personnel, providing a comprehensive AR operation and maintenance training platform for power enterprises.

Creating integrated virtual and real courseware content, supporting collaborative learning for multiple individuals. This allows sharing the same progress and visuals, offering richer and more intuitive information, operational procedures, and maintenance management methods. This approach significantly enhances the training effectiveness.

Allowing multiple individuals to interact, the "master" can collaborate to guide operations or assess students. This eliminates the need for repetitive communication and content adjustments. Visual and interactive virtual content makes communication and collaboration among multiple individuals more convenient.

▶ Fusion of virtual and real technologies, enhancing the accuracy of power inspection.

Focusing on the challenges of high pressure, personnel shortages, and uncertainties in underground corridor inspections, ALVA's AR intelligent inspection application allows concealed projects like underground cables to be presented clearly and intuitively to inspection personnel. Based on specific parameters and status information, inspection personnel can conduct inspections safely and efficiently.

Moreover, in the event of anomalies in concealed projects such as cables, inspection personnel can receive precise guidance through location navigation. They can accurately locate the problematic points and, based on the integrated virtual and real fault resolution approach, promptly address any issues. This significantly ensures the accuracy and efficiency of the line inspection work.

Project Results

By deploying ALVA's innovative AR applications, the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau not only improved the effectiveness of employee training and the quality of inspection work but also achieved the digitization upgrade of related tasks.

More importantly, it helped break down business boundaries and information barriers, enabling efficient collaboration across departments and driving digital operations and decision-making for the enterprise.

Furthermore, ALVA Systems will continue to collaborate with the Southern Power Grid of China to explore more AR applications, empowering the further digitization of the power grid.
